Follow Daniel on Twitter: @westerdaled (https://twitter.com/#!/westerdaled)  and stay tune to his blog as he will talk about this code in more details.

"BTW we talked about ULSlogging last week . I built a class that I have been using all week to write to the ULSVIewer and be easily filtered ...Product Contains SharePointShopTalk" - Daniel

Here is the an example:

• Add this code to c# library project

• Sign the assembly

• Add the project reference to whatever SharePoint feature you are coding.

• Log your messages or errors using the desired method in the ULSLogger

• Add the project DLL to the desired SharePoint feature -> package designer ->advanced so the DeploymentTarget should be the GlobalAssemblyCache

• Build solution

• Package up your wsp and deploy on to server – I used PowerShell commands.

• Go to the ULSViewer and have lots fun!

This was a very informative SharePoint ShopTalk, and not only that...one of my favorite things happened! Laura Rogers gave an impromptu demo! She answered the question, "How can I create a form so that only certain people can fill in certain fields?", by referring to two of her latest blog entries:
List Form Fields–Show/Hide For Certain People: Part 1 & List Form Fields–Show/Hide For Certain People: Part 2

Natalya Voskresenskaya also answered the common question, If I have FAST Search, do I still need to run SharePoint Search since it is what People Search is using.  Our members also contributed to SharePoint ShopTalk, Russell and Cindi about Document Libraries and InfoPath Forms.

Best Practices: Simple Solutions for Creating Powerful Search Experiences - Paul Olenick - Arcovis

SharePoint 2010 truly delivers on the promise of Enterprise Search and provides templates for creating excellent, basic, Search Centers. But with just a little effort you can take your search solutions to the next level, delivering even more powerful Search experiences to your users.

During this session, Arcovis, one of Microsoft's premier SharePoint and Enterprise Search partners, will walk you through several solutions that address common scenarios and challenges that your organization will likely encounter when deploying search. All of the solutions are simple, light-weight and low-risk even while providing a high impact to users. Attendees will leave with simple, applicable, real-world examples of solutions to make the most of Search in their organizations.

Making the Best Search Choices for your Organization – Natalya Voskresenskaya –Arcovis, Harry Jones - Arcovis

There is an increasing demand for IT to deliver better search capabilities. As users evolve with technology, they rightfully expect a greater experience from search than simply finding a document. Consequently, organizations that still view search as merely a search box and a list of results, are in real danger of losing competitive edge and potential streams of valuable revenue.

During this session, Arcovis, one of Microsoft's top search partners, will arm attendees with the tools needed to navigate the various decision points in both selecting and applying their Enterprise Search platform. Topics will cover choosing the right platform (SharePoint vs. FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint), examples for monetizing Search, using search to drive operational and business intelligence, Search as a service and more.

We are in a period of great business and social transformation. While Borders bookstores were dying, Amazon went from selling books to selling everything under the sun. How can two competing companies achieve such diverse results during a recession? While airlines were losing money and going out of business, Southwest Airlines said it would not affect their business because they are in the “customer service” industry and that industry is doing GR8.

The common threads between these successful companies are business agility, a culture of transformation, and the ability to take advantage of emerging markets. On April 5th, Philadelphia will be the host city for one of the largest conferences dedicated to business and social transformation.

SharePoint ShopTalk's Guest Panelist, Jeremy Thake was a great hit during last week's session!
He battled the flu to deliver answers to questions about SharePoint Governance, Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) , AvePoint product and services, and www.NothingButSharePoint.com.

He answered questions sent in by members like NicoleB and Westerdaled.  He also didn't shy away from any questions that were given to him live over the phone. We hope to have Jeremy back some time in the near future!

SharePoint ShopTalk 3.1.12 Overview

Posted by jamees.wright on March 2, 2012 at 1:25 PM Comments comments (0)

Hello All,

We are coming off the heels of very fun and insightful conversation during yesterday's SharePoint ShopTalk. We had our very first Member volunteer to share her SharePoint experience, advice etc. with the group.

Joelle Farley, Microsoft SharePoint User Development Analyst shared details on how she creates successes when training and creating user adoption as well as valuable tidbits on learning SharePoint OOTB along with a brief overview of her role woking on her company's branding project.

*I want to take the timeout to thank Joelle once again, I hope she is a trendsetter, and will encourage other members to volunteer their experiences*

We also utilzed James Love's (@JimmyWim) article: SharePoint Development: What to Learn? as a talking point, as Paul Olenick and Chris Poteet extended advice to Developer's beginning their exploration into SharePoint. Paul also offered, Paul Galvin's article as another great starting point for Developers learning SharePoint: Developers: How do I Learn SharePoint?
